The crew at Scrub Co. made time to chat about all things Scrub Co.
Hi Scrub Co, can you tell us a little bit about where Scrub Co. came from? How did you start your amazing coffee scrub brand?
As a group committed to innovating in the natural beauty space, we had tried a lot of the coffee scrubs in the market and noticed there were very few certified organic products. We wanted to make a scrub that not only made your skin feel good after using it, but actually improved your skin health over time. The make up of an average coffee scrub is actually pretty simple, but we wanted to make a range which was extra-ordinary and played on all the senses. Our goal was to create a “life changing shower” experience.
You use coffee beans from a local coffee roaster and cafe in Christchurch, can you tell us about that relationship?
At the moment we use Addington Coffee Co-op’s Jailbreaker Coffee. They freshly roast and grind all of the Certified Organic fairtrade coffee we use for our scrubs. We wanted to use a local coffee brand as we’re really proud and aware of all the amazing coffee roasters in Christchurch. Addington coffee co-op built their business donating up to 70% of their profits back into local and overseas communities, and they continue to innovate in the philanthropic space. We are passionate about supporting home grown companies like them.
You use certified organic ingredients, which is awesome! Where do you source your various ingredients that make Scrub Co. so amazing?
We like to keep it in the family. All of our ingredients are sourced from local NZ suppliers including our fair trade coffee, and we will never change that.
Cosmic loves Hemp! Can you tell us about using Hemp in your products? What are the benefits of Hemp?
We love hemp as well, it has so many uses and is a product that we’ll be seeing more of in NZ. It’s a well-developed and popular product overseas and when used topically it has so many benefits. Hemp seed oil is great because it has heaps of essential fatty acids. Most important for us is the Omega 3, 6 and 9. Omega 3 has great anti-inflammatory benefits that can therapeutically heal skin conditions. Omega 6 is essential for the healthy functioning of skin and can coat the outer layer which is amazing for dehydrated and dry skin. Omega 9 on the other hand promotes healthy inflammation responses. Adding a bit of green in your routine is always a good idea!
What is it that makes Scrub Co. so good for the skin?
It’s the combination of exfoliating while feeding your skin with all the goodness from those natural organic ingredients. Combining the organic scrub ingredients makes for a powerful combination. Our scrubs are built to improve the texture, definition, and elasticity of your skin over time. If used consistently, you will notice the difference these powerful oils and ingredients can make. We’ve really just blended some epic natural products that when used together have an unbelievable effect.
What’s next for Scrub Co.?
We hope to release more products in the next 12 months and continue our expansion into Australia, Europe, and the United States. A range of delicious lip scrubs and a line of face scrubs are definitely on the cards.
