WHAT TO DO!

• Cleanliness is the first and most important step of proper lense care. Establish a routine of good hygiene when handling your lenses.
• Always wash your hands thoroughly with a mild soap before and after handling lenses.
• Rinse hands carefully and dry them before touching your lenses. Avoid oily or scented cosmetics, soaps containing moisturiser, lotions or creams before handling your lenses. These products may adhere to the lense surface, causing discomfort to the eyes.
• Insert your lenses before applying makeup and remove them before taking makeup off, otherwise cosmetics can build up on the lens causing irritation.
• Do follow the instructions for how long you can wear the lenses. (maximum of 6-8hours per day)
• If you wear them too long, this will cause damage to your eyes by straining them. The contact lenses that we carry at Cosmic are for cosmetic purposes only and aren't designed for prolonged wear.
• The best way to get your eyes used to wearing contact lenses for a longer period of time is to work up to it. On the first day, wear the lenses for no more than 4 hours, increasing to 6 hours on the second day and 8 hours on the third. Do not wear for more than 8 hours per day thereafter. If you leave your lenses out for several days, you should re-adapt.
• These lenses, if properly cared for, will last for a total of 3 months wear from the time they were opened. For hygiene reasons (such as accumulation on the lenses) and to protect your eyes from damage, you should discard lenses within this time.
• Only use contact solution for cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting, re-wetting and storing of your soft lenses.
• Soak the lenses in solution to disinfect them, and clean the lens case frequently to avoid contamination. If the lenses are not stored properly, they may dry out and become brittle. Store contact lens solution and contact lense case at room temperature, ensure lids and the cap of solution are tightly closed when not in use.
• Do remove lenses if they become uncomfortable, and get advice from an eye-care practitioner.
• Like any other cosmetic product, contact lenses are safe provided that the user has healthy eyes, meaning they have gone to an eye care practitioner and received the green light to go ahead and wear contacts. Our eyes are very important and should be treated with the best care. Proper cleansing and storing of your lenses and short term wear will make them a safe, fun and easy to wear cosmetic.

WHAT NOT TO DO!

• Do not use the lenses if the sterile package has been opened or disturbed, or if a defect or any irregularities are found on the lenses when you first open them.
• Do not use tap water or used solution on lenses. These liquids are not sterile and harbour organisms that can cause serious infections.
• Do not share lenses with others as sharing lenses can cause infections.
• Do not sleep with contact lenses in your eyes.
• Do not use lenses while swimming or soaking in a tub.
• Do not wear lenses if you are suffering from red or sore eyes.
• Do not wear contact lenses longer than the duration recommended.
• Do not wear contact lenses if you are not feeling well.
• Avoid using lenses in a smoky, dusty environment or chemical fumed areas as it could cause irritation to the eyes.

LENS HANDLING

This is a simple guideline on how to put in and remove your lenses. The following instructions are for those who are right handed.

How to put your lenses in:

1. First of all, always wash your hands before handling your lenses.

2. Gently shake your lens case containing the storage solution to loosen the contact should it be stuck. (Don’t try pulling at the lens with your finger, or you might damage it.)

3. Slide the lens out of its case and into the palm of your hand. Rinse thoroughly with the appropriate contact lens solution. Do this by squirting a pool of solution on your clean hand, and rubbing both sides of the lens through the solution to clean it. Having the contact slightly wet inside the bowl of the lens also helps to adhere the lens to the eye.

4. Handle your lenses with your fingertips and avoid contact with fingernails. Balance the lens on your right index or middle finger which should be dry or mostly dry. All edges must be up.

5. With the fingers and thumb of your left hand, simultaneously pull up on your upper eyelid and down on your lower eyelid.

6. Position the lens on your eye while looking upward or forward, whichever your find to be easier. You can also apply the contact lens by placing it on the white of the eye closest to your ear. Lenses can flip back onto the tip of your finger, so place them as gently as possible to minimise this.

7. Gently release the lids and blink. While centering the lens, close your eyelids and gently massage the lens into place through the closed lids. Gently let go of your lids, look downward towards the floor.

8. Slowly open your eyes. Look closely in the mirror to make sure the lens is centered on your eye. If it is, the lens should be comfortable and your vision be clear.

9. Use same technique when inserting the lens for left eye.

10. Always ensure right lens for right eye and left lens for left eye.

HOW TO REMOVE YOUR LENSES

1. Wash your hands with mild soap and dry them with a clean hand towel. If you are standing in front of a sink, use a clean paper towel to cover the drain where the contact lens might accidentally fall.

2. Look upwards or sideways and slide the lens to the lower white part of the eye using your forefinger.

3. Squeeze the lens gently between your thumb and index finger to remove the lens.

Until you master contact lens removal, you might want to keep your fingernails short to avoid accidentally scratching and damaging your eye or damaging the lenses.

4. The lens removed should be washed with saline or solution before placing in your lens case soaked with fresh solution.

5. Apply the same method as above when removing the lens on the other side.
